Conducting

As a conductor, my goal is to inspire players to bring the very best of themselves to every rehearsal and concert. Setting the example and modeling this behavior does so much more than lead to great rehearsals or performances... it builds lasting relationships, empowers individuals, and opens endless possibilities of musical growth and emotional impact for our audiences.

When I stand on the podium, my role is not to lecture, but to lead by creating a space that all performers and players feel like an active collaborator in the music making process. I want anyone performing under my baton to sense the mutual respect and support, and be excited for that first note of each rehearsal.

What to expect from a rehearsal with me:

I work hard to perform and contribute to the creation of new music through commissions and consortium. Each ensemble I work with has the opportunity to learn about composers who have made an impact in the field throughout history, as well as current living composers they can actively reach out to and connect with!

SUPPORT

My goal is to make each and every performer feel recognized and empowered to make great music. There has been, and still is, significant systemic problems within the music world. I want to showcase the representation of composers and performers in all aspects of music, demonstrating to my students and ensemble members that success can be achieved by those from all backgrounds.

PROFESSIONALISM

I started my career as an instrumentalist, so I understand the value and importance of treating all players with respect and professionalism. This simple, yet essential, characteristic in my conducting and rehearsals makes the players I work with more receptive to my expectations, and results in mutual accountability, achieved goals, and the opportunity to set higher standards for the future.
